The challenge

Custom packaging is sold on specification, not on a picture. A buyer does not want a mylar bag; they want a child-resistant mylar bag, in a particular size, in matte, with a specific finish, at a quantity that clears the minimum. Every one of those choices changes the price, which is why the trade runs on email: you describe what you want, you wait, someone comes back with a number.

That is the thing to design away. The site had to let a buyer assemble a real specification themselves, across seven product categories that share almost no options with each other, and hold enough of the surrounding detail (minimums, proofs, dielines, DDP shipping) that a first-time buyer would trust the quote at the end of it.

The approach

The catalogue is the product. Every line (mylar bags, glass and plastic jars, retail boxes, labels, tubes, counter displays) is configurable in place: material, size, finish, cap type, cap colour, applicator. A buyer assembles a specification, previews the order, and submits it for a quote, and their submissions are saved so they can return to one instead of starting another email thread.

Around that sit the pages a first-time buyer reads before they will ask for a price: an industries breakdown, a walkthrough of the process, a design service for artwork and dielines, and an FAQ that answers minimums, proofs and DDP shipping up front. It is a React single-page app across roughly twenty-five routes, so moving between a product, its options and the quote flow never reloads the page.

The outcome

The site carries the whole catalogue rather than a sample of it: 38 configurable product lines across 7 categories, and 60 pages in the sitemap. Every line is specified on its own page, and the configuration a buyer builds travels with them into the quote, so the first email to PKAGED is a finished specification rather than an opening question.

The pages that answer a first-time buyer are part of the same system rather than an afterthought: industries, process, design, and an FAQ that states minimums, proofs and DDP shipping before anyone has to ask for them.
